This Bu Gu Zhi is grown in Yun Nan province. It is steeped in rice wine and salt and then fried with moderate flame until dry. Wine gives Bu Gu Zhi a warm and moving nature and salt leads the herb to the lower body to strengthen the back and knees.

Of the wine-salt treatment, the Supplemented Return to Spring from the Myriad Diseases (Ceng Bu Wan Bing Hui Chun) says, “it warms aching pain in the back and knees and aids the yang to secure essence.”
