CITES Approved
This species of Mu Xiang is particularly fragrant and is generally considered to be the best grade due to its high oil content. Because in its native environment it is endangered, it is regulated under CITES (Convention on International Trade of Endangered Species) and a CITES certificate is required for import and international trade. Our Yun Mu Xiang is cultivated in Yunnan province. This species (Saussurea lappa) is not native to China and was previously imported from Southeast Asian countries. Since it was imported through Guangdong province it was also known as Guang Mu Xiang. In the 1940's it was discovered that the herb grew well in Yunnan province so since that time it has been grown in Yunnan and is called Yun Mu Xiang.
